DSL

High-speed broadband (Digital Subscriber Line), a partnership between Earthclick.net and Qwest

Wireless

Wireless Internet Access is available in areas where the ISP has installed radios and other equipment necessary to transmit and receive internet requests (webpages, email, etc.) from the client computer to the ISP's servers and routers.

Dialup

Dialup Internet Access uses your local phone line and your computer's "modem" to connect you to Internet. Dialup works essentially like this:

  • Your computer program (e.g. your browser) initiates a "session" with your communications software
  • Your communications software opens the modem's "communications port"
NOTE: if your modem isn't installed, is broken, or is in use by another program such as your fax program, you might get an error
  • Your modem takes the phone line "off-hook" at listens for a dial-tone

DSL

DSL stands for "Digital Subscriber Line" and is a very specific type of "broadband" or "high-speed" Internet connectivity service. DSL runs over your phone line, but unlike dialup service, DSL uses different frequencies than voice services, so you can use both DSL and Voice at the same time without interference (note that DSL requires a "filter" on your phone line so that the DSL signal isn't co-mingled with your Voice service.
